Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Commonly known as CPR. A set of assesments and skills used in sequence to provide rescue support and maintain some oxygen and blood flow to the heart and brain.
Automated External Defibrilator
Commonly reffered to as an AED it analyzes the hearts electrical activity, and when possible gives a shock to restore it to normal function.
Heimlich Maneuver
A method used to aid a choking person by giving abdominal thrusts.
Abdominal Thrusts
A method used to dislodge an object from a choking person's airway by which the person puts their arms around the victim and with one hand in a fist thrusts hands in an inward and upward motion.
Chest Compressions
A treatment consisting of the rescuer pushing on the victims chest when a victim has no circulation.
Chest Thrusts
A method used to dislodge an object from a chocking person's airway when the person is pregnant or too large for the rescuer to do abdominal thrusts.
Rescue Breathing
The rescuer blows into the mouth of the victim when aa victim is not breathing.
Back Slaps
A method used to dislodge an object from an infants airway, using force applied between the shoulder blades; used in conjunction with chest thrusts.
